Pienza and Montalcino
A day in Tuscany! This tour is designed specifically for the first-timers who would like to visit this little piece of paradise, the way it should be visited, in complete calm and relaxation.
We will meet in you hotel lobby at 7:30am and in around 2 hours by car, we will arrive in Pienza.
Pope Pio II wanted to covert his native soil from a minute medieval village Pienza (Corsignano) into a papal residence in complete Renaissance style. He wanted to create the idyllic little town with a balance of harmony and yet industrial possibility.
This is why the town of Pienza is also known as the "utopian town". Unfortunately the untimely death of Pope Pio II abruptly stopped his dreams towards perfection and it was left unaltered.
We will also stop at The Papal Residence and The Dome of Pienza, obviously this charming little town is rich with small shops specialized in selling its local cheeses.
Back onto Via Cassia that crosses the Val d’Orcia. We will arrive in Montalcino, the birthplace of Brunello Di Montalcino.
From the towers of its imposing fortress, Montalcino grants you an impressive panorama; on a clear day you are able to glance upon Tuscany’s southern territories and its with the Lazio region.
We will also visit the historical centre and you will be able to lunch upon specialities of the house, wines, oils, and cheeses in a typical characteristic restaurant of the area.
On the way back, you will have the possibility to stop and take some photos of the lovely valleys that are adorned with olive trees, vineyards and cypresses.
